Our Days of Darkness

I hate coffee, but I really have to drink one now coz I cant stop myself from rocking back and forth unconsciously due to insufficient amount of sleep caused by the non-electricity in our street. It’s painfully embarrassing to be awakened by the constant hitting of the monitor with my forehead. This is work for crying out loud, and one thing I don’t like seeing from my team are sleepyheads while working, and worst its me. It’s been 5 days now and the heat is melting our remaining sanity.
Typhoon Milenyo has come and gone and there's another tropical storm coming over for a visit, but still we have no power se we can store fresh food and cold water and no light to brighten our dark abode. I called them Meralco hotline twice yesterday to get an update on when they would be able to repair those exploded transformers but they could not tell me when they can dispatch crews to fix it. I would have been very forgiving but we are the only streets left with no power in our neighborhood. Imagine how ridiculous it looks when the whole community glows with lights and then your street is covered with darkness. In addition, this is the Metropolis, it is where technological advancement and logistical procedures are first serviced, I'd like to give them benefit of the doubt but I can now say that Meralco's service totally sucks. In the province, we have never experienced a power interruption for more that 3 days. I just hung up the phone after calling their hotline again and just like the first two calls I made, they can not give me an update on when power can be restored. They're supposed to be a multi-billion company that should have adequate technology and manpower and logistics strategy to service their millions of consumers. Damn it. I'm trying really hard not to blurt this out but I can’t help myself anymore. Damn the Lopez group of companies for monopolizing every service utilities there is, Power/Energy, Water, Telecommunications, Infrastructures, etc. It will not be very long before they own the entire country and start billing you for the air you breath. Sorry, but I’m angry now.
It's very unfortunate that we have been affected like this by the fury of last week’s typhoon, but it’s rather more unfortunate that we aren't really moving in a thrusting progressive change in general. We seemed to have stagnated as a society satisfied with filth of a busted system. It’s not wrong to be idealistic. I have a very strong affection on idealism. In fact, I think we should stop little by little on being practical all the time. I believe that this way of thinking has directed us to a selfish and poorly contented Filipino and it has not done us any good for decades now. I know we need not be reminded of this, but reminder has been running short on here lately and it’s been causing us lives and properties.
So while I sip this mental poison of caffeine, I say, MERALCO I'M STILL WAITING!

i feel you man. the strange part about it is that whenever there is a power outage here, americans go crazy and are ready to sue.. its like they cant live 30 minutes without internet, tv or knowing that their cell phone is charging. i like the power outages- not having these luxuries opens my eyes. coffee is killer... just a few months ago i would have about 6 cups of coffee a day since i would be in bed at 2 but wake up at 5 for work. ease up...

Anyway, Im in Singapore now on a week vacation. Were hopping on Malaysia and Singapore. My family and I left on Saturday to Malaysia. We got here in Singapore just yesterday.
